Abstract
Sustainable livestock farming and safe food production are globally shared goals, and approaches based on natural additives represent a promising direction in this regard. Collaboration between industry, researchers and regulators is crucial to ensure sustainable and responsible practices in animal production. Prudent use of additives is crucial to prevent the development of antimicrobial resistance. Natural additives, when used correctly, can offer benefits without causing resistance in the same way as some chemical agents. Essential oils and plant extracts, these compounds have antimicrobial and antioxidant properties that can benefit the intestinal health of animals. Furthermore, its use can contribute to reducing selective pressure on microorganisms, minimizing the risk of resistance. Food security and sustainability The search for natural alternatives not only meets the demand for products that are safer for human health, but also aligns with environmental and sustainability concerns.
This work aimed to use clove essential oil and propolis extract as modulators of the rumen microbiota, with an emphasis on in vitro results and research and as an auxiliary performance enhancer in ruminants. The study evaluated several characteristics of the feed and their influence on nutritional and digestibility properties in a basal feed added only by additives, with the control (without addition of additive) EO with clove essential oil 1.75µl/kg of feed produced, EP with propolis extract 2g/per animal/day and OEEP containing the combination of clove essential oil and propolis extract (MIX), with 5 repetitions of each treatment. The bromatological chemical composition, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (FDA), dry matter (DM), mineral matter (MM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total digestible nutrients (NDT) were evaluated. ) and in vitro digestibility of dry matter (DIGIV).
